Tears.

Dear Mothers of Small Children, I need help.

Finley has decided that he doesn't need an afternoon nap this week. I disagree with him. He also decided he doesn't need to nurse before going to bed. Again, I disagree. And currently, because I am the world's biggest sucker, he is playing with us and watching Community, even though it is 2 hours past his bedtime. He just kept crying... and I am a wimp. And the saddest part? The only way to get him to stop crying was for Sol to hold him. As soon as I take him, he starts to wail again because I am the horrible woman who tries to feed him and make him sleep. I am so terrible.

I know I shouldn't have let him get up. But it was pathetic. Look at those sad tears and that drippy nose. Oh, I am a sucker.

  4. Tears are so hard. I am definitely more prone to get Ruthie up than Matt. So what I recommend doing is having Sol go in there and try to make him sleep. I do that with Matt and it usually works well. Or we take turns going in there every 10-15 minutes while letting her cry it out. His trick is to not pick her up out of the crib. Me, I'm a sucker too. But I usually put her back down and then just let her cry.

  5. Awww that picture is the cutest looking sad baby ever! I was just like you with Kennedie (my first) couldn't stand to let her be sad. It gets easier with the second. The crying doesn't get to you as much, either that or I am a cold cold woman! HA. That Finley is just too cute for words!

  6. The BEST sleep book on the market is Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child. Rachel, this is WORTH every penny. It's a big book, but it's totally managable since it's broken down into age appropriate sections. I wish I had had it with Avery, it was a life saver with Owen. Actually it still is since it's a sleep reference through elementary school. Good stuff. Hang in there. :) Amy Bole Williams

  7. Hi Rach, ok so I don't qualify for small children parenting currently. I think he may be having prob with teething and he may not want to eat b/c of that. Can throw off his sleeping too. Does he have a teething toy that you can put in freezer and make cold? or a wet washcloth in freezer? maybe a topic anesthetic...poor mom and finn ; o (.
